According to a Google project Zero security researcher Natalie Silvanovich, she noted that there is a security flaw in whatsapp which can allow hackers to use a video call gain access to users messaging app. To trigger the bug the whatsapp mobile app needs to a malformed RTP packet.

Remember that whatsapp has over 1.5 billion active users monthly, which means that if this security breach is not taken care of hackers will get hold of some many users whatsapp.

The vulnerability is due to the heap corruption which occurs when the whatsapp mobile application receives a malformed RTP(Real-time Transport Protocol) through a video call on the messaging app. By receiving the call you are vulnerable to hack.
A Report has it that the web version of whatsapp is not affected due to the fact that it uses WebRTC for its video call. The Vulnerability will affect both Android and iPhone users as they make use of RTP for their whatsapp video call.
